class photo - 4th grade

I got a text from a mother of one of Tim's classmates who also works at his school.  Our families have become friends.  She sent the photo in a text and wrote: "Best class picture EVER!"  I immediately suspected that something was afoot and began scanning it.  She was right.  Everyone facing the camera, everyone smiling, no one wearing something inappropriate...And then I saw him.  Our son.

I have seen Paul do this same pose.  Just sayin'.  I am certain there are some parents who are not happy, feel that he has ruined the class photo.  I feel for them.  Fortunately, they have the good breeding and manners not to say anything to me.  A couple of them have praised him, which I love.  One said, "Why couldn't that be my child!"

I love that he is comfortable in his own skin.

The 4th and 5th grade classes had a sleepover at school to help them bond.  He had a great time and actually got some sleep.

immigration day

Meet Timoteo Globus from Latvia.  With his two children, he immigrated to America on Monday, April 10, 2017.  He successfully passed through immigration on Ellis Island and respectfully waved at the Statue of Liberty.  He is currently attending school in Fort Collins, Colorado in hopes of making a better life for himself here.

Rivendell has an Immigration Day with the "intent to give student a feel for what it might have ben like during one of the 'waves' of immigration.  Students were put into family groups."  Timothy was in an adult group with a role "assigned regarding his health, wealth and ability to make a positive contribution to the American society. They will move from their ships to the admission, ovation, character and health stations."  If they clear, they wait in the Great Hall for the opportunity to say the Loyalty Oath.

When he told us about his day, he said that he didn't like that his was the last ship to dock and he had to wait for EVER to start.   His favourite part was dressing the part.  He wants to wear his shirt, tie, coat and hat again because he thinks he looks like an airline pilot. 

Some students were found unsuitable and had to appeal.  Some were even deported!  These went through re-entry so that they could be part of the rest of the day.

Timothy brought a piece of luggage that was as close to period appropriate as we had.  He put a spare pair of shoes, some books and a first aid kit in it.

Third grade, Mr Bryce Warren's class at Rivendell School

It's a perfect autumn day for a cycle, and Timothy is finally realising the joy of doing just that.  Yesterday he went from learning to ride to riding a bike, and today he's been to Dairy Queen with Dad to celebrate and is out with the neighbourhood gang burning up the streets.  

"I love riding my bike!" he said to Paul as he road by with the other kids.

Hooray! I ran 18 laps.  But last year I ran 20 laps.  :)

third grade

This is the first year that we've heard grumbling about returning to school.  He's had a great summer, so we can't blame him.  He returns with a missing front tooth.  At last.  When the other one comes out and the two adult teeth grow, he will finally look his age.

His report at the end of the day was that school was great and he liked his class.  His teacher is Bryce, and the class has more second graders than third graders, which means Timothy will have plenty of opportunities to mentor.  He's been doing this with the younger students and lower belts at his martial arts studio and seems to have a knack for it.

Timothy has started the breast stroke with side breaths in his swimming classes.  He can swim very well under water now.  He still wants to hold his nose when he goes under, but that is improving.  The face mask that gave him so much freedom has become a crutch in this area, but he is adjusting.

This is the first haircut Timothy has requested.  He also told the stylist what he wanted for the first time.

It's already time for a belt promotion for Timothy, from high gold to orange.  Like his first belt promotion, this was held at one of the high schools and was a great show.  The black belts performed some impressive forms, and Timothy's enthusiasm for this activity was reinforced.  We only had our phone cameras this time, bad planning, hence the poor quality.

Two of his classmates and Timothy's teacher Suzanne, who dressed as Radiation Girl as she is going through radiation treatments for breast cancer.  She has a great sense of humour.

I got to not only attend Timothy's Halloween class party, but I also got to help plan it this year.  Being a Mom with Tim for such things is fantastic.

Tim played a goat in the performance.  He had three lines, including the punchline to a joke, which he delivered well.  I didn't video it because I wanted to watch it live.

On the last day of school before the Winter Break, Timothy's school held a talent show and he performed a Taekwondo form called Chon-Ji.  He asked one of his karate instructors to teach it to him (he won't learn it at the studio until he's an upper gold belt), and they practiced it every time he went to class.  We are very proud of him for doing this in front of his entire school.  His karate studio has a great deal more space than the stage; hence, the fall (gracefully executed).
